PMMA Tunnel at Deepspot

Project description

The tunnel project was a major technological challenge because the tunnel is not anchored to the floor, but connected to a footbridge suspended in the pool space.

This means the loads change during filling: the footbridge with the tunnel pulls downward, and during filling it is gradually pushed upward by buoyancy.

We had to account for these changes, so we placed special rubber aprons at the end of the tunnel to compensate for load changes.

The tunnel consists of seven segments, each 100 mm thick.
